Walkaboutbrosdownunder

Since 2018 the team at Walkabout Bros have been busy designing adventure programs to support the Mental Health and wellbeing of individuals Australia wide. Our goal is to incorporate indigenous practice and culture, modern psychology  and neuroscience  to assist the management of stress and pressure for the modern-day student/youth and adult workforce.

Mental Health support is not a “one size fits all” proses and unfortunately the current crisis has overloaded the nations capabilities and our Mental Health professionals, to a point where it can take upto 3 months to see a professional. we need to take action.

adventure

Our indigenous team members, traditional owners of the land that we call home provide exclusive access to some of Australia’s pristine and breath-taking locations. Teaching traditional knowledge of survival and practises to keep them alive within the community, also creating avenues of employment within the indigenous space. Supporting Indigenous Culture to not only stay alive, but to thrive for generations to come. Our yearly investment to the Indigenous community is forecast to be $228,600.00 per location, per year. Combined with our wide range of facilitators from Defence members to Yoga instructors, Accountants, Artists and musicians that come on the journey to share their stories    of success and failures to empower our clients’ chances of success within their chosen fields.

passion

During our stay at these breathtaking locations, our clients engage in individual and group activities to expose their character and unlock talents and skills that may have been previously unknown. Activities are structured to engage the individual’s problem-solving capabilities, planning and communication skills as well as emotional awareness. Some activities include:

  • Capture the flag- Physical Team Exercise where teams are given 10 min to plan an extraction of the opponent teams flag and deliver it back to their “home base” without being tagged by an opposing team member.

  •  I'm Down - Physical Team Exercise where a team member is rendered incapacitated and needs to be moved from one location to another. The incapacitated member has a bucket of water on their person and the team must get them to the chosen location with as much water in the bucket as possible.

  • The Inventors- Team mental activity where teams are given a modern-day problem where they need to invent a product to solve this problem. They are given 1 hour to invent design and create a target demographic scope to present to the entire group.

  • What I Like About You-(yes, like the song)    Individual Exercise where the individual writes down a strength, weakness an occupational suggestion for each other member of the group. This is an anonymous form where we then correlate everyone’s results and supply them with the outcome. The individual then numbers the occupational suggestion from 1 to 10. Then returning to their groups and coming up with 5 key checkpoints they need to achieve in order to obtain employment/success in the fields selected.

purpose

This is the culmination of the previous activities. The individual writes 3 paragraphs of there current view on life and their aspirations: Personal-Professional-Relationship. The first Paragraph is the What, what do they want to achieve in the next 5 years. The next is Why they want to achieve set goals, and the third is How. After writing these goals the individual then presents their aspirations to the group. This in turn teaches humility, accountability and above all communication. It is then up to the group to support each other with their talents and strengths to compensate for the others weaknesses creating a community of support and forging bonds that will last a lifetime.

We believe it takes a village to raise a child and to empower an individual’s passion to a purpose. Walkabout Bros want to facilitate these relationships built on a common ground of honesty, humility, empowerment, and a passion for creating a stronger future for generations to come within their community.
